"L O S T" prints were shot between 1999-2004, a mixture of Joseph Rafferty's Editorial Commissions & Personal Work.
Printed by world-renowned master printer Michel Karman of A&I Photographic Laboratory in North Hollywood, CA. Whom services are in great demand by many well-known photographers including Helmut Newton, Nan Goldin & Greg Gorman.
The two met circa 2003, Michel had just won another Lucie Award for printing but was more passionate about entire show he had just printed for Sallie Mann.
"Michel always wore a smile with pristine flowing white lab coat underneath & has this intoxicating aroma of cigarettes & developer; with kind eyes watching you, taking in everything. He's that type of creative, wonderful energy."
"How did you think of this?" was the first question Michel asked Joseph when looking at his large format camera contact sheets. "Before he had even asked my name, felt like I was meeting the photography oracle."
All prints from "L O S T" disappeared in 2007 until 2018, when discovered by a child rummaging through obscure toy box.
These Toned Fiber Master Prints prints represent alternative printing processes, polaroid techniques from by gone era, usage of film now obsolete, and a overall unexpected unfamiliar mood/feel that only Michel could come up with tweaking out his chemistry to make something profoundly beautiful.
"L O S T" images captured on Kodak Tri X Black & White Negative Film and Polaroid Type 55 Negative through analog cameras: Small Format (35mm), Medium Format (6x7) and Large Format (4x5)
